At our townhouse project, we are intensely working on refining the light coves within the central staircase. At the top, a curved, plaster-molded cove frames a large skylight opening. At night, a soft glow of LED lighting replaces the daylight, reflecting back from the oval shape of the opening. We went through a number of mockups to optimize the cove, placement of lighting and distances to the surfaces. The plaster cove will be fabricated by Hyde Park Moldings, and precisely shaped based on 2D and 3D drawings.
