Final Approval Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden
It is final: On December 2, 2021 the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) approved our redesign of the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden! This concludes the approval process that began in 2018.
Over the last 3 years, we have worked extensively with the museum and the Smithsonian Institution to come up with a design that simultaneously honors the past and looks to the future: A revitalized museum campus with many restored features, while providing new space and support for the ever growing art collection of the museum. Before their approval, the commissioners acknowledged the difficult, but ultimately successful process behind us. Said Daniel Sallick, the board chairman of the Hirshhorn: “This project is surely better today because of the public input and Hiroshi Sugimoto’s [and the design team’s] ability to make changes while keeping the larger vision for the sculpture garden intact”.
